Managing Stress With Biofeedback Systems

April 22nd, 2011 by admin

In approximately five minutes, the INDIGO Biofeedback System can simultaneously detect and record information about the individual client’s stress reactions.

The INDIGO Biofeedback System reveals a client’s voltage, amperage, resistance, hydration, oxygen, proton and electron pressure (VARHOPE) scores; these electrical calculations are important indicators of the health / stress of various different functions in the body.

Different lifestyle factors which could be contributing to the body’s overall stress load are reflected in the INDIGO Biofeedback System’s Suppression Obstruction Cure (SOC) scores.

Information about reactions to over 11,000 subtle stress related signatures and physiological parameters are also reported for client education.

How can the INDIGO Biofeedback System help to improve my health?

The INDIGO Biofeedback System functions in a multitude of ways, it can send signals to measure and record electro-physiological reactions to a multitude of items, re-educate certain muscles, nerves or organs or it can retrain areas of the body / mind to healthier patterns.

In other cases, it can invert certain signals which seem to be closely associated with a stress pattern.

The INDIGO Biofeedback System is by far the most comprehensive biofeedback system on the market today. Pre-designed stress reduction protocols may be used, or programs can be designed to meet the specific individual needs of each client. There are hundreds of different training programs that may used back-to-back in limitless combination’s to obtain optimum results.

Additionally, it is able to run up to four complimentary programs simultaneously for a highly synergistic and enhanced effect.

Stress Reduction and Stress Relief

April 22nd, 2011 by admin

Stress affects us all. The deleterious effects of excess stress have been well documented in a wide range of medical publications.

Thousands of research articles, studies and books prove beyond a shadow of doubt, that stress can be a factor in any disease, as it alters biochemistry and neurological functioning, and can weaken the immune system and the digestive tract.

This neuro-psychological-immuno link is well established in many peer reviewed medical journals on Psychoneuroimmunology.
The Fight or Flight response

Stress can trigger the body’s response to perceived threat or danger, the Fight-or-Flight response.

During this reaction, certain hormones like adrenalin and cortisol are released, speeding the heart rate, slowing digestion, shunting blood flow to major muscle groups, and changing various other autonomic nervous functions, giving the body a burst of energy and strength.

Originally named for its ability to enable us to physically fight or run away when faced with danger, it’s now activated in situations where neither response is appropriate, like in traffic or during a stressful day at work.

When the perceived threat is gone, systems are designed to return to normal function via the relaxation response, but in times of chronic stress, this often doesn’t happen, causing damage to the body if stress is not reduced and managed.

Common physiological changes resulting from stress reactions include:

Increased Heart Rate, which can lead and / or contribute to heart conditions. Hormonal Fluctuations, which can lead and / or contribute to endocrine, reproductive, digestive disorders, obesity, diabetes and mental disorders.Constriction of muscles and blood vessels, can lead and / or contribute to pain, tension, circulatory issues, cardio-pulmonary issues and asthma.

The suppression of non-essential life processes, which affects reproduction, higher executive brain function, digestion and immunity.

Many people think of stress only in terms of things like deadlines at work, family or relationship stress, financial pressures, traffic jams, or the death of a loved one perhaps.

However, stress reactions also occur on the unconscious, cellular, subtle or energetic levels each time we are exposed to a toxin, pathogen or allergen; and every time our body experiences a nutritional deficiency or excess.

What are the benefits of Biofeedback?

Everyone can benefit from biofeedback. Most people report biofeedback sessions to be relaxing, soothing and beneficial. Yucha and Montgomery (2008), in their article “Evidence Based Practice in Biofeedback and Neurofeedback” published in The Journal of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback summarized the most current and complete medical research based on scientific rigor and consistency of outcome on biofeedback benefits and efficacy with the following health related issues.

Biofeedback Therapy is Becoming Mainstream

February 9th, 2010 by admin

Biofeedback has long been considered an alternative health modality, far from mainstream medical acceptance. Times are changing!

The US government’s Bureau of Veteran Affairs is now using biofeedback therapy to treat veterans for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. They are finding biofeedback to be increasingly useful as a vital tool to fight this insidious condition that frequently plagues returning combat soldiers from the field.

John Arena, lead psychologist for the Veterans’ Affairs Center in Augusta, Georgia, acknowledges that biofeedback therapy is a very “radical” type of treatment that is nevertheless becoming “more and more mainstream” to the extent that it is now accepted as “part of regular medicine.”

Arena is also President of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback.

Additionally, Dr. Arena has found biofeedback to be very effective in treating chronic pain and high levels of stress by helping patients learn to monitor and take control over their own body’s reactions to  environmental stressors.

He has found that patients can also reduce headaches and anxiety due to higher levels of muscle tension.

How Does Biofeedback Treatment Work?

Sensors are connected via small straps to a person’s wrists, forehead or ankles while a biofeedback device measures muscles tension, heart rate, temperature, brain wave activity, blood pressure, and / or, in the case of the iNDIGO / SCIO / EPFX, the frequencies of bodily responses and activity.

By measuring the biofeedback information transmitted via these connectors, the practitioner can read their bodies’ reactions and use this information to help people manage body stimulus reactions.

Good News…

The best news is that biofeedback and iNDIGO / SCIO / EPFX sessions are noninvasive and gentle, having long lasting effects due to the patient’s newfound ability to have an effect on his own pain and stress levels.  This can lessen the need for large doses of pharmaceutical drugs, thereby reducing drug induced side effects.

Professional Certification

Carmen Russoniello, an associate professor and director of a biofeedback center at East Carolina University, recommends that people seek professional biofeedback practitioners who are well trained, certified and “understand the equipment and techniques involved.”

Stress Relief with Quantum Biofeedback

January 31st, 2010 by admin

WHAT IS STRESS?

Stress is defined as a nonspecific response of the body to any demand made upon it which results in symptoms such as rise in the blood pressure, release of hormones, quickness of breath, tightening of muscles, perspiration, and increased cardiac activity.

Stress is not necessarily negative. Some stress keeps us motivated and alert, while too little stress can create problems.

However, too much stress can trigger problems with mental and physical health, particularly over a prolonged period of time.

Any experience that taxes an individual’s energy or well-being; stress may be physical, mental, or emotional.

WHAT MAY BE CONSIDERED “STRESS RELIEF”?

Anything that relieves mundane stress on a daily basis, such as relaxation, can help. However, Hans Selye, a Hungarian medical scientist, was the first to use the word “stress” in connection with a picture of health wellness. His theory is that when the body reacts to stress, it creates an “alarm” response.

That means that your body is in good shape to react accordingly to any given stressor, hopefully appropriately and effectively in ways that relieve it.

If the stress continues, however, an “adaptation” state may result, where we learn to accommodate or bear the symptoms of stress by adjusting to them. This can, more positively, mean creating an increase in our tolerance to frustration and moving back into the alarm state, which relieves the stress, or, negatively, reacting with an accommodating adjustment that (tempo

rarily) alleviates the pain of the stress but becomes a new holding pattern. If the stress continues even longer, an “exhaustion” state is created that may lead to a considerably weakened system. This alarm / adaptation / exhaustion model fits all forms of stress, whether physical, mental, or emotional.

Obviously, reducing stress is a key to well-being. Relaxation helps, but how do we know where stress may be hiding in the adapted or exhausted states physically, mentally, and emotionally.

With the help of Quantum Biofeedback, we can painlessly and non-invasively look at reactions to common stressors and begin to piece the picture together.

Most people find the Biofeedback experience relaxing, soothing and beneficial. The side effects of Biofeedback may include these possibilities (and many more that may be experienced):

CLASSICAL BIOFEEDBACK

Biofeedback is a technique in which people are trained to improve their health by using signals from their own bodies. Physical therapists for example, use Biofeedback to help stroke victims regain movement in paralyzed muscles. Psychologists use it to help tense and anxious clients learn to relax. Specialists in many fields use Biofeedback to help their patients or clients cope with pain.

Chances are you have used Biofeedback yourself. If you have ever taken your temperature or stepped on a bathroom scale, you have received “Biofeedback” information. The thermometer tells you if your body temperature is normal or not, and the scale tells you if you have lost or gained body (bio) weight. With this information, you can take the necessary steps to correct this condition.

Clinicians rely on more complicated Biofeedback devices in somewhat the same way in order to detect a person’s internal bodily functions with far greater sensitivity and precision. For patients, the Biofeedback device acts as a kind of “sixth sense” to allow them to “see” or “hear” activity inside their bodies.

Biofeedback Beginnings: The word “Biofeedback” was coined decades ago to describe laboratory procedures being used to train experimental research subjects to alter brain activity, blood pressure, heart rate, and other bodily functions that normally are not controlled voluntarily. This early research demonstrated that Biofeedback can help in the treatment of many diseases and painful conditions. Some believe that Biofeedback will one day make it possible to do away with drug treatments that often cause uncomfortable side effects in patients with high blood pressure and serious conditions.

Biofeedback Today: Clinical Biofeedback techniques that grew out of the early laboratory procedures are now widely used to treat an ever growing list of conditions; migraine and other headaches; digestive system disorders; high and low blood pressures; cardiac arrhythmias; circulatory issues; epilepsy; paralysis; movement disorders, and many other maladies.

Specialists who provide a variety of forms of Biofeedback range from Psychologists, Medical Doctors, Dentists, Chiropractors, Internists, Nurses, Physical Therapists, Naturopaths, Veterinarians to Energy Medicine Practitioners, and many others.

QUANTUM BIOFEEDBACK

The iNDIGO & SCIO Biofeedback System, now entering the third decade of its development journey, and while leading the field of Bio-Energetic and Bio-Response measurement, is the accepted standard for the application of Quantum Biofeedback.

It is the latest and most up-to-date technology, takes a multitude of different stress management programs, methods, and techniques, and merges them into a more simple - best overall - well rounded approach.

Quantum Biofeedback, working through sixteen different electrical factors of the body, calculates combinations of impedance, amperage, voltage, capacitance, inductance, and resistance for Electro-Physiological Reactivity (The Xrroid Process). The body is indeed electric; therefore reactivity in the body can be measured electrically.

E-P Reactivity results are based upon the ability to establish a “Tri-Vector” connection for an energetic “3-Dimensional” view of the client’s current reactions to over 10,000 different items. All accomplished completely independent of user influence to help avoid bias or error. The picture painted by the reactions may help to create a better understanding of the individual factors pertinent to lifestyle and wellness. Once established, the Quantum Biofeedback auto-focus program, designed to monitor a client’s reactions, helps optimize the quality and quantity of the stress management results.

The techniques and methods of Quantum Biofeedback stress management include addressing those areas most typically affected by the stressors of “every-day living”. Some examples of these methods and areas are the “Tri-vector,” “Auto-Meridian,” “Homeopathy,” “Auto-Frequency,” “Auto-Color,” “Auto-Spinal,” “Chakra,” and “EEG.”

The iNDIGO & SCIO Device is connected to the client via a head strap, and wrist and ankle bands.

WHO USES QUANTUM BIOFEEDBACK?

iNIDGO and SCIO devices are being used worldwide by Doctors, Kinesiologists, Dentists, Veterinarians, Naturopaths, Chiropractors, Homoeopaths, Acupuncturists, Nutritionists, Psychologists, Hypnotherapists, Massage Therapists, and many other professional practitioners. In addition, many people from all walks of life own and use Quantum Biofeedback Systems, depending on their own personal or professional needs.

WHY PURCHASE AN iNDIGO?

Or upgrade from an older or other system? The iNDIGO is simple to use and comes with excellent support materials such as help manuals and tutorial DVD’s and CD’s. In fact the inclusive library of available information is an education in itself. The System is extremely portable; it can be used in a small office, a client’s home, or at an exhibition booth.
